As I am sure we are all aware the condition of our roads has been deteriorating at an alarming rate over the last few years, we are now experiencing a huge increase in the number of customers enquiring about having buckled and bent wheels repaired. Damage caused by pot holes and ragged road surfaces has never been greater.
These buckles and flat spots often lead to a loss of tyre pressure, vibration and shaking through the steering wheel and potential MOT failure. Out of shape wheels will massively reduce tyre wear and vibrations can seriously damage suspension and steering components. We can help.
Due to the massive increase in demand for this service we have now invested in a high tech specialist straightening machine that uses a hydraulic press to ease out the damage.
The deformed section is determined by centring the wheel on the hub of the machine slowly rotating it and measuring the shape with a dial guage.
Once the damaged area is located we heat this and the surrounding area to avoid the possibility of it cracking under pressure. We then use the hydraulic ram to gently push out this damage until the wheel runs true.
As the wheels are heated during this process there is likely to be discolouration to the painted surface, whilst this will not be visible on the inside of the wheel we recommend a full refurbishment if the damage to be repaired is on the outside face of the wheel.
Finally, the process of straightening a wheel involves considerable force and whilst we will obviously apply our considerable skill and knowledge to the job in hand, it is not possible to guarantee that wheels will not crack as a result.
